• The West Tower.
  • From the doorway in the western wall of the Retainers' Hall, access is gained to the West Tower. The tower contained three levels of rectangular rooms and a spiral staircase joining them. The ground floor room has three small windows, but no fireplace or garderobe. This room could have been used for storage, but there was also a trap door in the floor, leading to the basement below.
The two upper chambers both have garderobes and fireplaces and the first floor chamber would have been quite well lit by its two lancet windows. The upper chamber provided access to the curtain wall and would have been lit by three windows.
